Programs that Help Workers

PROGRAMS

Iowans have access to several programs that support the advancement of skills, re-entry into the workforce, and resources to help workers who experience mass layoff events.

SERVICES FOR THOSE THAT QUALIFY CAN INCLUDE:

Career services, which include but are not limited to:

  1. Skill assessments

  2. Staff-assisted résumé preparation and job development

  3. Development of an individual employment plan

  4. Career counseling and career planning

  5. Financial literacy

  6. Adult basic education

  7. Pre-vocational activities

  8. Work experience
     

Training services, which include but are not limited to:

  1. Occupational skills training

  2. On-the-job training

  3. Incumbent worker training

  4. Entrepreneurial training
     

Support services, which include but are not limited to:

(Available only when needed for participation in career or training services.)

  1. Dependent care assistance

  2. Transportation reimbursement

  3. Required clothing and tools for work

  1. Register on IowaWORKS.gov, to have access to all of our online services including career assessments, skills matching, résumé and cover letter creation, and automated job searches.
  2. Call or visit your local IowaWORKS Office to meet with a Career Planner to determine eligibility for these programs.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title I funds help eligible Iowans access training. Approved training programs enhance skills for Iowans and help prepare them for successful career pathways. Iowans using WIOA funds can select from the list of approved programs on Iowa’s Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL).
