DES MOINES – The U.S. Department of Labor today awarded Iowa Workforce Development $439,940 in grants to enhance the unemployment insurance (UI) information technology security.

“Doing business is a technology driven age presents additional security challenges. The additional funds awarded allow us to heighten our measures for protecting Iowan’s confidential information and allow additional businesses to complete their transactions online,” indicated Iowa Workforce Development Director Elisabeth Buck.

Today’s award provides the necessary funding for security enhancements, including new software to test the security of unemployment insurance Web applications and an enhanced intake system for a new claim form; traceability and audit software upgrades which control code access and provides detailed tracking regarding changes; and the development of a secure electronic file transfer system to allow large employers the ability to report wage and tax data online. Small and medium size employers began utilizing these enhancements in early 2007.

Iowa Workforce Development is dedicated to providing technology driven, customer-focused services in a data secure environment.
