Iowa Workforce Development Responds to State Auditor's Report
DES MOINES – Iowa Workforce Development received a report from State Auditor David Vaudt critical of lax Unemployment Insurance procedures that were previously utilized.
"The department is in agreement with the audit findings," stated director Teresa Wahlert. "Procedures and processes used in the previous administration were not stringent enough to prevent a deceptive practice of fraud."
The current Branstad/Reynolds Administration has worked diligently with the department to ensure new safeguards are in place to protect the integrity of Iowa’s Unemployment Insurance system. New procedures include mandatory written notification when changes are made to an existing account, enhanced audit procedures and centralization of unemployment processes with limitations on staff accesses.
