Iowa Workforce Development Offers Many Services for Veterans

Marshalltown, Iowa – From job search assistance to information about employment and training programs, Iowa Workforce Development offers many services for veterans.

“We are pleased to serve the Iowa veterans who gave of themselves to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today,” said Elisabeth Buck, Director of Iowa Workforce Development.

Eligible veterans can receive assistance for a productive job search or gain access to job listings through IWD’s electronic data base. They can also receive assistance with job interviewing and résumé writing skills.

Veteran Representatives through Iowa Workforce Development monitor job listings from federal agencies and federal contractors to ensure that veterans get priority service in referral to these jobs, and work closely with clients of V.A. Vocational Rehabilitation.

Veteran Joe Smith went to the Marshalltown Iowa Workforce Development Center after relocating from California. When Smith arrived in Iowa, he struggled to find work even though he had a wealth of experience in an office environment. He was referred to several positions but because he was older, walked with a cane and had some significant hearing issues, Smith had some significant barriers. The workforce associate that he had been working with referred him to the AARP. They were able to place him in their program and Smith is now successfully working for the city of Marshalltown.

This is just one example of the personalized service Iowa veterans receive from Iowa Workforce Development. For more information, contact the Marshalltown center at (641) 754-1400.
