SE IA Regional Job Fair Planning in Progress

BURLINGTON - Iowa Workforce Development, along with several co-sponsors, is preparing for the Southeast Iowa Regional Job Fair, to be held March 26 at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium from 2 pm to 7 pm. Planning started in November with the co-sponsors getting together to decide when and where to have the event. “We are currently contacting employers to participate in the event and the radio stations are running spots geared toward the employers,” according to Diane Harris, IWD chair person for this event.

The Job Fair will have employers who will be showcasing their business and product, along with taking applications and résumés for current or future positions. There will also be workshops for the applicants to attend, that will include First Time Résumés and Interviewing Skills. Also, area Human Resource Representatives will be conducting Résumé Critiquing during the event.

Last year the event was held at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium, and there were 65 employers participating, with over 1900 people coming through the door to either fill out applications or present their résumés to the employers. The committee hopes the event will grow and be a bigger success this year.

Co-sponsors of this event include the area Chambers including Burlington, Ft. Madison, Keokuk and Mt. Pleasant, area radio stations including Withers Broadcasting, Pritchard Broadcasting, KILJ, and Titan Broadcasting, The Hawkeye, Mt Pleasant News, Iow@Work, Southeastern Community College, Iowa National Guard, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Staples.
