Final WIOA plan posted; public comment period open for 30 days

Des Moines, IOWA - Today, Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation, and Iowa Department for the Blind announced that the final Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Unified State plan is posted for public comment

The 30-day comment period on the final Unified State Plan ends on October 2, 2016. Comments are requested for content, language, and overall implementation of the local plan. Each region has identified a contact person to receive comments.

IWD is the lead State of Iowa agency responsible for implementing WIOA. This is the first federally enacted legislative reform of the workforce development system in 15 years, redesigning how services for job seekers, workers, and employers are carried out. WIOA was signed into law in July 2014, after Congress passed the bill with wide bipartisan majorities.

In addition to IWD, staff from the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Iowa Department on Aging, Iowa Department for the Blind, Iowa Department of Human Services, Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Department of Corrections are partners in WIOA implementation.
