Clay County Fair Workers Needed!
SPENCER, IOWA – People who want to work at the Clay County Fair September 6-14 may sign up now at the Iowa Workforce Development office, 217 West Fifth St., Spencer, either in person or by calling (712) 262-1971 x 123 or at your local IWD office. Hours for the sign up are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
A temporary Workforce Center will open Wednesday September 3 on the fairgrounds. That office is located at the north end of the Information Booth, just south of the Grandstand at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 5th Street on the fairgrounds. The phone number (to be activated on 9-3-08) will be (712) 262-5521 and the temporary Workforce Center will be open through September 14, 2008.
Openings exist for a variety of jobs, including food service, concessions, booth sales, restroom cleaning, display set up and tear down, etc. Salaries may not be covered under minimum wage laws, and will vary with different vendors.
Full-time and part-time work is available on day or evening shifts. Applicants should expect to work long hours and may be standing on their feet for 8-10 hours per day in non-air-conditioned or heated facilities, and may work at outdoor exhibits.
Employers must comply with federal and state child labor laws regarding the hiring of youth ages 14-17.
Exhibitors and vendors at the Clay County Fair who need workers are encouraged to contact the local Iowa Workforce Development office for assistance in recruiting workers. Both the temporary and regular offices are open to both applicants and employers at no fees.
