Iowa Workforce Development Extends Unemployment Insurance Reporting Deadline

Des Moines, Iowa – Due to recent flooding and severe weather, Governor Chet Culver recently announced an extension of business tax filing deadlines. Iowa Workforce Development has extended the deadline for filing 2nd Quarter Unemployment Insurance Quarterly Reports and Contributions.

“This has been a difficult time for many Iowans,” said Elisabeth Buck, Director of Iowa Workforce Development. “Offering this extension is one way can help reduce the stress these disasters have put on many Iowa employers.”

The deadline is extended to August 29th. Employers should submit their request in writing along with their account number and that they were affected by the recent flooding/tornadoes.

Requests should be sent to:
Iowa Workforce Development
Attn: Sara Gillen
1000 E. Grand Ave.
Des Moines, IA 50319-0209
Fax: (515) 242-6301
E-mail:

If an employer receives a bill showing penalty and interest, they should write on the statement that they were affected by the recent severe weather and return it to IWD. The penalty and interest will then be eliminated.

This extension is only available for those employers affected by the recent natural disasters. For those unaffected, the July 31st deadline will still apply.
