Iowa Workforce Development Participates In Sioux Center Indoor Home Show Fair

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – Bob Becker from the Spencer office of Iowa Workforce Development Region 3 and 4, participated in the Sioux Center, Iowa Indoor Home Show Fair which was held on March 26 and 27, 2008. The Indoor Home Show Fair was held at the All Seasons Center in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Interested participants asked questions about the traditionally well known services that Iowa Workforce offers such as Unemployment Insurance benefits and Job Placement. Home show seekers also learned about Work Opportunity Tax Credits (WOTC) and the Employers’ Council of Iowa (ECI).

Additional discussions centered on the concept of “Screen Scraping” which gives employers further access to the Iowa and U.S. labor market by allowing Iowa Workforce Development direct and timely access to a wide variety of employer web sites. Participants also noted the current workforce labor shortage in the Sioux County area and inquiries were made concerning the hiring of legal immigrants and working through the New Iowan Center as a way of accomplishing this goal.

Altogether, 145 exhibitors presented at the Home Show. Attendance was very good, comments concerning the fair were favorable and plans are in the making for additional booths for next year’s fair.
