Iowa Workforce Development Providing Assistance for Nelson Nursing Home Employees

FAIRFIELD – Nelson Nursing Home announced plans to close their operations in Fairfield. The announcement is an unfortunate event for Fairfield and the surrounding area. This type of a loss has significant impact on not only the employees, but the entire community as well. The State of Iowa is committed to assisting the affected workers with Rapid Response and reemployment services in a proactive and efficient manner. Our goal is to mitigate the economic loss for the families and community of those involved.

Iowa Workforce Development has already begun the process of initiating the Rapid Response program to serve the employees. “Our team has already made arrangements with company officials to begin providing on-site services beginning September 11th”, indicated Iowa Workforce Development director, Elisabeth Buck.

In addition to services provided on-site at the nursing home, Iowa Workforce Development will have a job club session on September 15, 2008, at the Fairfield office that will be open to all employees of the nursing home that are interested in attending. Also an Iowa Advantage Class will be scheduled for Fairfield on September 30, 2008, and anyone from the Nelson Nursing Home, as well as the community, will be able to sign up at the local IWD office.
