“Form I-9 Updates, New Provisions & Compliance” and “Iowa’s Layoff Aversion Project”
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA – The Southwest Iowa Employers’ Council (ECI) will host a training session on two topics for human resource professionals and businesses:
• “Form I-9 Updates, New Provisions & Compliance”. The US Department of Homeland Security recently issued new employment verification rules and Form I-9. A wide range of Form I-9 issues, compliance tips and enforcement issues will be addressed by a Special Agent with DHS.
• “Iowa’s Layoff Aversion Project” The US Department of Labor believes in the principle of prevention of layoffs whenever possible. Leslie Schmalzried, Program Manager will explain the three main goals of Iowa’s Layoff Aversion Project to assist businesses in preventing layoffs.
The Southwest Iowa ECI session will be held on Thursday, August 20th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Southwest Iowa Law Enforcement Training Facility, 10073 192nd Street, Council Bluffs. All employers, human resource personnel, recruiters, attorneys, paralegals, business owners & economic developers are invited to attend.

. There is no fee to attend. Handouts and refreshments will be provided. This program has been approved for 2.5 (General) recertification credit hours towards PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI); a certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees for recertification purposes. The Southwest IA Employers’ Council is a local employer group supported by Iowa Workforce Development Region 13 including Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Cass, Freemont and Page counties, and is part of the statewide Employers’ Council of Iowa system.
