Creston Workforce Center Awarded Veteran Program Incentive Funds

DES MOINES - Iowa Workforce Development announced the 2008 recipients of the Veterans Services Incentive Funds during Wednesday’s veterans’ conference. The funds are awarded to field offices going above and beyond in providing services to Iowa’s veterans at the local level.

“I’m proud of the services our staff provides throughout the state, and am honored to recognize four of our offices that have demonstrated a high level of creativity and commitment to providing services to area veterans,” said Iowa Workforce Development Director Elisabeth Buck.

Creston is an excellent example of an office that keenly promotes service to veterans, despite not having designated veteran staff on site. The local business service representative has been credited with recruiting staff members to help veterans outside of their normal job duties, particularly during the holidays. This same individual also took the lead in helping a deserving veteran and local employer receive his Purple Heart – presented by Senator Tom Harkin.

Congratulations to the Workforce Centers in Creston, Des Moines, Mason City and Sioux City for their outstanding work. Each center will receive $3,880 to support additional veteran services programming in their community.
