FORT DODGE, IOWA - On Friday, May 13, 2005, the Employer’s Network Taskforce will host a workshop on Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action in the Workplace. The workshop will be held from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Best Western Starlite Village, Junction of Hwy 169 and 7, Fort Dodge.
Tom Good, training specialist with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, will facilitate the workshop. His presentation will provide an outline of the various laws that are enforced by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. The background and history of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission will be explained, along with the various areas covered by the Iowa Civil Rights Act. The protected personal characteristics named in the law will also discussed and affirmative action as it applies in the workplace. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions about the laws and the processes that affect them and their organizations. Business owners, supervisors, and human resource administrators are encouraged to attend.
