Iowa Workforce Development Releases Final Report on Governor’s Workforce Summit

DES MOINES – The 2007 Governor’s Workforce Summit was an overwhelming success and was attended by more than 400 business leaders, community leaders, educators, legislators and other state representatives from every corner of Iowa. Each attendee came with the same mission: a commitment to dealing with Iowa’s pending workforce shortage.

“The interactive afternoon sessions provided insight into the real-time effects of the problem and excellent ideas for potential solutions,” indicated Elisabeth Buck, Iowa Workforce Development Director. A number of the suggested solutions are included in the final report, and have been submitted to the Iowa Legislature for consideration.

An important follow-up to the Summit will occur in the Fall of 2008. Iowa Workforce Development will be hosting the first Workforce Development Conference October 1-2, 2008, in Des Moines at the Polk County Convention Complex. The Conference, geared towards business, will further address the workforce issues facing the state. It will provide information on best practices, address concerns facing businesses everyday and provide important information updates on legal compliance. Watch for additional information on this valuable day and a half conference coming soon.
