SPENCER, IOWA – What is a wage garnishment? What are the restrictions on wage garnishment? The Lakes Area Employers’ Council (ECI) will be meeting on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm at Brown Medical Industries in Spirit Lake to learn about Wage Garnishment Laws. All employers, human resource personnel and payroll staff are invited to attend.
Frank Cal Tenuta, Managing Attorney with Iowa Legal Aid in Sioux City will be presenting information about Iowa’s Wage Garnishment laws. Mr. Tenuta has been with Iowa Legal Aid (previously known as Legal Services Corporation of Iowa) since 1985, first as a Staff Attorney, then as the Managing Attorney since 1994. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Minnesota and his BA degree from the University of Wisconsin. Federal Wage Garnishment law information will also be available.
The topics to be discussed at the meeting include:
• General information about wage garnishments
• How to determine the amount of wages subject to garnishment
• To whom does the law apply?
• What are the restrictions and limitations on wage garnishments?
