SPENCER, IOWA – The local Iowa Workforce Development office at 217 West 5 Street in Spencer is prepared to provide job seeking assistance to displaced workers from Eaton Corporation.
Linda Gray, Iowa Workforce Development Spencer Office Supervisor, states “Iowa Workforce Development offers a variety of workshops on a monthly basis to assist job seekers with résumés, company applications, cover letters, interviewing skills and budgets/financial planning. In addition, the Iowa Advantage workshops provide information to assist customers cope with changes, manage stress and family concerns. Job and Career Options Workshops are also held, providing information about returning to school and transferable skills when looking for employment. Also important to know is that IWD assists customers who need to apply for unemployment insurance benefits. The displaced Eaton workers may be eligible for traditional Rapid Response services, and may be eligible for TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance) benefits such as, extended unemployment insurance benefits and the opportunity to engage in long-term training while receiving cash payments and other reemployment benefits.”
All local Workforce Development offices are equipped with a resource center to serve the needs of Iowa job seekers. The resource center provides self-guided employment searches, résumé and cover letter assistance, referral and applications for local employers, job development and placement assistance, labor market information, interviewing skills workshops, unemployment insurance claims and a business directory of local employers.
Iowa Workforce Development provides job seekers with the necessary tools for developing a career path with skill assessments and development tools, certified tests in typing, 10-key, spelling and data entry, workshops on career development, financial management, education and others, and job fairs. Additional services include Iowa Access-serving Iowans with disabilities, Iowa Advantage workshops for individuals in career transition, services for US military veterans, disability program navigators and Promise Jobs.
The Iowa Advantage workshops and all services provided at Iowa Workforce Development are provided at no cost to customers in employment transition.
