Iowa Workforce Development Awards Registered Apprenticeship Training Funds

DES MOINES – Iowa Workforce Development has awarded training funds from the $6.2 million registered apprenticeship grant to organization providing programs targeting the construction industry. The funding will train over 1,500 Iowans in rapidly growing, apprenticeship based occupations in high-demand industries.

Four organization were awarded training funds for their registered apprenticeship programs, including the Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa; Southeastern Community College Center for Business, the Southeast Iowa Electrical Apprenticeship; and the Iowa Energy Construction Trades, affiliate members of the Iowa State Building and Construction Trades Council.

“Addressing the skills gap in Iowa is a priority for Governor Branstad and Iowa Workforce Development. Registered apprenticeships provide a win-win situation for Iowans and employers,” stated Iowa Workforce Development Director Teresa Wahlert. “The apprenticeship program provides Iowans with an opportunity to secure a new opportunity while earning a high-paying wage and employers are awarded with highly skilled employees.”

Iowa Workforce Development is pleased to partner with a diverse group of registered apprenticeship partners to expand work-based learning strategies and assist with the continued development of strong partnerships between workforce and construction industry organizations.

Additional partner components to implementing the registered apprenticeship grant will be announced in the coming weeks.
