DUBUQUE, IOWA - Two of the toughest laws employers deal with are the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). A seminar titled, “HELP, I am Caught in the Fog…” will cover these two important federal employment acts. The seminar will be held on May 18, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. till noon in Room 106 at the Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Town Clock Center, 680 Main Street, Dubuque. The seminar is sponsored by the Northeast Iowa Community College Downtown Center for Professional Development, Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), the Tri-State Human Resource Association (TRIHRA) and the Employers’ Council of Iowa (ECI). Those encouraged to attend include human resource managers, payroll accounting staff, managers and business owners that employ hourly and/or salaried employees.

The seminar presenters include the Assistant District Director for the U.S. Department of Labor who has 23 years experience enforcing FLSA and FMLA employment laws and an employment attorney with Iowa Workforce Development whose career has focused on complex employment and labor law issues. Both presenters will feature hypothetical employment situations to help audience members work through difficult FLSA and FMLA issues.

A registration form may be obtained by calling NICC Town Clock Center for Professional Development at (888) 642-2338 or locally at (563) 557-8271, ext. 380. The fax number is (563) 557-0319. Participants may also pick up a registration form at the NICC Town Clock Center for Professional Development. There is a modest attendance fee for this half-day seminar.
