Des Moines – On November 17th, Story Construction of Ames reached a milestone achieved by few, and the first in Iowa, one million hours worked in 1,000 days without a lost-time accident from its employees.

“Iowa Workforce Development and the IOSH team congratulates Story Construction on achieving such a significant milestone”, stated Iowa Labor Commission Dave Neil. “By understanding and promoting a culture of safety throughout their organization they have achieved success for their employees and themselves. “ Another benefit received by Story Construction for focusing on safety within their organization, is a reduction in workers’ compensation costs by $95,000 over the previous year.

In addition to receiving a letter of congratulations from Governor Vilsack, Story Construction celebrated their achievement on December 8th with a celebration in Ames. On hand to offer congratulations were Iowa’s Labor Commissioner Dave Neil, Deputy Commissioner Steve Slater and Charles Adkins, Federal OSHA Region VII Administrator from Kansas City, MO.

Iowa’s Occupational Safety and Health consultation division provides confidential, on-site assessments, separate from enforcement to Iowa companies, free of charge. Employers can reduce their incidence of injury or illness by identifying potential worksite hazards and improving their occupational safety and health management systems.
