What is a wage garnishment? What are the restrictions on wage garnishment? The Kossuth County Employers’ Council (ECI) will be meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Exceptional Opportunities in Burt to learn about Wage Garnishment Laws. All employers, human resource personnel, financial officers and payroll staff are invited to attend.
Evelyn Ocheltree, Senior Staff Attorney with Iowa Legal Aid in Mason City will be presenting information about Iowa’s Wage Garnishment laws. Handouts will be available and time will be allowed for questions.
The topics to be discussed at the meeting include:
• General information about wage garnishments
• How to determine the amount of wages subject to garnishment
• To whom does the law apply?
• What are the restrictions and limitations on wage garnishments?

There is a registration fee of $ 7.00 to attend which includes handouts, lunch and meeting expenses. If you register but do not attend, you will be billed. A certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees for recertification purposes.

The Kossuth County Employers’ Council is a local employer group supported by Iowa Workforce Development Region 3, and is part of the statewide Employers’ Council of Iowa system.
