DES MOINES - The Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) Advisory Committee announced today that the annual Governors Safety Conference for the Construction Industry will be co-located and held in conjunction with the 17th Annual Iowa Construction Exposition on February 8, 2007 at the Polk County Convention Center. This is the first time that the two events will be held together at the same time and location. The safety conference will feature twenty-one safety training courses designed to assist both employees and employers alike to learn how to develop safe work practices and job safety for workers in Iowa’s construction industry.
The co-locating of these major events is expected to increase safety awareness and safe work practices for hundreds of Iowa construction workers and their employers who annually attend one or both of the conferences. The training at the Governors Safety Conference is conducted by top safety professionals in the field of construction. Courses cover a variety of subjects considered to be of top importance toward the number one priority --- that workers return home after work to their families safe and sound.
“The Governor’s Safety Conference is an outstanding example of Iowa’s construction industry and Iowa OSHA working together toward safe worksites for construction workers,” said Dave Neil, Interim Director, Iowa Workforce Development and Steve Slater, Interim Labor Commissioner, Iowa Division of Labor.
Registration is open to the public. Registration information can be obtained by calling the Master Builders of Iowa at (515) 288-8904 or Iowa Workforce Development, Division of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (515) 281-8067.
