Registered Apprenticeship Appreciation and Awareness Week Events

As part of Registered Apprenticeship Appreciation and Awareness Week, the IowaWORKS Centers located throughout the state have collaborated with community colleges, companies and other organizations to help coordinate Registered Apprenticeship events across Iowa.

Carroll
Event: Registered Apprenticeship: Build the future you want!

Event: Registered Apprenticeship Meet and Greet

Details: Employers who are taking applications for Registered Apprentices will have the opportunity to meet interested applicants. A 30-minute informational session for both employers and job seekers will kick off the event. Topics include funding options and application and eligibility processes. The event concludes with speed interviews so each applicant can individually introduce themselves to each employer.

Event: Grow Your Own: Creating Opportunities for New and Current Employees with Registered Apprenticeship

Details: Employers’ Council of Iowa event that will showcase: why Registered Apprenticeship Programs are not just for skilled trades; steps to creating a Registered Apprenticeship Program; hearing directly from a Registered Apprentice; and incentives for employers. A local employer who has a successful Registered Apprenticeship Program will speak along with Rick Bruno from Penn Foster, IowaWORKS staff, and a Registered Apprentice.

In addition, there will be information on the culinary and information technology programs at Eastern Iowa Community College.

Details: IowaWORKS presents Principal Kristopher Byam to talk about the Boone High School’s Quality Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Boone High School is leveraging Registered Apprenticeship Programs in their area to create career pathways and work-based learning opportunities for their students. Principal Byam will touch on some of the challenges his team faced during program development and how they were able to overcome and move forward. This interactive event will provide information on how to fill the skills gap through Registered Apprenticeship and Quality Pre-Apprenticeship. This invite only event will bring educators and businesses together discuss work based learning and how to provide meaningful career pathways to Iowa students.

In collaboration with the Department of Corrections and IowaWORKS, this is an opportunity for employer to meet and interview highly motivated, prepared and pre-registered job seekers who are working to return to their community after incarceration.
