Industrial Certifications, Partnerships & Work Keys, All Part of the Workforce System
SPENCER - The Lakes Area Employers’ Council (ECI) will be meeting on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at Iowa Lakes Community College, 1900 N. Grand Ave., in Spencer, Iowa. All employers, human resource personnel, accounting, payroll, and other staff members are invited to attend. Featured speakers will be Dr. Harold Prior, President of Iowa Lakes Community College and Linda Glorfield of Iowa Workforce Development.
Dr. Harold Prior will be talking about the unique partnerships and programs that Iowa Lakes Community College offers, as well as, other industrial certifications that I.L.C.C. currently offers or may offer in the future.
Major Topics To be Discussed:
• The Business and Employment Opportunities for Iowa (Baby Boom Generation, projected workforce shortage)
• Profile Iowa Lakes Community College Unique Partnerships and Programs
• Energy Programs: Wind Energy and Turbine Technology Program and Wind Industry Connections (Review program history and partnerships), Biomass Program-Ethanol and Biodiesel production
• Unique Programs: Motorcycle Repair, Marine Repair, Aviation, Criminal Justice, Farm Equipment Repair
• Partnership Programs: Agricultural Education, Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute, Nursing and Health Careers: Transfers to Iowa State University, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa, Buena Vista University and Briar Cliff University
Dr. Harold D. Prior is currently President of Iowa Lakes Community College. His previous educational experience included serving as Superintendent of the Algona Community School District from 1988 until 2006, Superintendent of the Burt Community School District from 1991 until 2001 and Superintendent of the West Bend School District from 1983 until 1988. He also worked as a Principal, a Secondary Teacher and as a Coach in Bedford. Dr. Prior was named Superintendent of the year in 1999-2000 by the School Administrators of Iowa. Dr. Prior’s educational credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Peru State College, a Master’s Degree from Northwest Missouri State University and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Iowa State University in 1991. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a nuclear weapons specialist.
Linda Glorfield from Iowa Workforce Development will also briefly talk about Work Keys and how this tool can be used to identify specific skills in potential employees before hiring them. Also, a free profile ($800.00 value) is being offered to ECI members who wish to profile a certain skill or job for which they anticipate hiring future employees.

. There will be a $4.00 charge for continental breakfast payable to Iowa Lakes Community College that day. If you register but do not attend, you will be charged. A certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees for recertification purposes.
The Lakes Area Employers’ Council is a local employer group supported by Iowa Workforce Development Region 3 and 4, and is part of the statewide Employers’ Council of Iowa system.
