Iowa Workforce Development Offers Many Services for Veterans

Sioux City, Iowa – From job search assistance to information about employment and training programs, Iowa Workforce Development offers many services for veterans.

“We are pleased to serve the Iowa veterans who gave of themselves to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today,” said Elisabeth Buck, Director of Iowa Workforce Development.

Eligible veterans can receive assistance for a productive job search or gain access to job listings through IWD’s electronic data base. They can also receive assistance with job interviewing and résumé writing skills.

Veteran Representatives through Iowa Workforce Development monitor job listings from federal agencies and federal contractors to ensure that veterans get priority service in referral to these jobs, and work closely with clients of V.A. Vocational Rehabilitation.

A veteran turned to the Sioux City Development Center after being released from the Nebraska Work Release Facility in Lincoln, NE. This gentleman was registered for work in the IowaJobs system and was introduced to the myriad of programs and services for which he was eligible. After deciding he would like to obtain a commercial driver’s license, he was connected with a Workforce Investment Act representative who was able to assist him in accessing WIA funds.

He was able to attend Western Iowa Tech Community College’s Truck Driver Training. Following graduation, this veteran earned his CDL and was connected with a trucking company. He was hired and is currently driving for the company as an over-the-road Class A CDL semi-truck/trailer driver.

This is just one of the many success stories Iowa Workforce Development has regarding our veterans. For more information, contact the Sioux City center at (712) 233-9030.
