WATERLOO, IOWA – There is still time for businesses to register for a booth at the fifth annual Discovered Resources Job Fair scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center main floor exhibit hall.
“This is the most comprehensive job fair in the Cedar Valley. It has become an icon of the collaboration among state and local agencies, and employers to facilitate inclusive workforce development in the Cedar Valley area.” said Douglas Zhu, Chairman of the Job Fair Planning Committee, “The Mission of the Job Fair is to provide opportunities for employers and job seekers to discover resources and solve employment needs. Last year approximately one thousand job seekers attended and visited with over fifty-five company representatives.” He encourages employers to take the advantage of this opportunity to showcase their business and meet their staffing needs. All individuals who are serious about looking for employment are invited to the event.
During the fair, Charlotte Rashid, Labor Market Information Coordinator of Iowa Workforce Development will present at the workshops on “Career Planning – Beyond the Want Ads” from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. The workshop will give job seekers guidance on how jobs are changing, what employers are expecting and tools for an effective job search.
The job fair is sponsored and organized by Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Iowa Workforce Development, Hawkeye Community College, Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and AARP Senior Employment. Co-sponsors include Cedar Valley Employer’s Council of Iowa, CSD of Iowa, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Hellman Associates, MidAmerican Energy, The Courier, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and Western Home Communities.
